OVERVIEW

 

The successful candidate will be an energetic, self-motivated, and detail-oriented Senior Industrial Electrical Designer with a minimum of 10 years experience in complex industrial electrical design who can perform and be responsible for electrical power distribution design of assigned projects. The successful candidate will utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings. Designs must adhere to applicable codes, standards, project-specific requirements, and procedures.

 

DUTIES

  • Utilize AutoCAD to prepare engineering drawings that adhere to applicable codes, standards, project specific requirements and procedures.

  • Work closely with other disciplines to ensure adequate collaboration and technical guidance on the same deliverables and promote technical excellence.

  • Supervise, coordinate, and review work of drafters and designers on assigned work.

  • Function as an electrical checker as needed at all levels of complexity.

  • Work as a fully competent designer supporting engineering staff in all aspects of the project.

  • Perform electrical calculations such as load calcs, light levels, voltage drop, and one line diagram development.

  • Reviews manufacturers’ prints and coordinate between these and project drawings.

  • Coordinate assigned design work with other project groups.

  • Coordinate and interface as required with the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, and other designers and drafters.

  • Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to project engineers and project managers.

  • Facilitate technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Low and medium voltage electrical design experience (120V up to 15kV) is required.

    • 5+ years design experience that includes design of power distribution systems.

    • Design experience must include design of grounding systems, lighting, single lines, schematics, switchgear, motor starters, VFD, etc.

    • Industrial experience to include electrical circuits up to 15 kV, MCC, Switchgear, UPS, PLC, emergency generation systems.

  • Computer proficiency in AutoCAD (prefer also MicroStation), Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.

  • Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards including NEC, NFPA, UBE and ANSI, and design and/or pertinent layout criteria.

  • Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of electrical design features.

  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.

  • Good knowledge of general engineering procedures and administrative practices.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, a self-starter with strong work ethics.

  • Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.

  • Ability to work in an environment that requires coordination with other engineering disciplines, balancing multiple projects and strong ability to meet schedules.

  • Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors and staff and have the people skills required to solve problems.

  • Willing to travel to remote field locations, up to 10% of time.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Work experience in a consulting engineering firm.

  • 2-year technical degree or certificate from an accredited designer/drafter course.
